Care Family Program

We love our care families as they are extended family to us.  Please email for details!

I believe it is quite impossible to raise family companion animals in other than the environment they are meant to live. Like most things, it is all about scale and being a breeder with a few full time dogs at home feels best to me.  These dogs are social and there is a certain amount of attention required for their well being. Grooming, exercising, training, and of course snuggling.  There are practical limits as well as legal so the number of dogs a breeder can adequately manage varies by breeder (much like children!). So how to work within those constraints and still have a viable, thriving breeding program, endeavoring to better the breed?  The 'Care Family' (also know as 'Guardian Family') concept was born and is in extensive use in the Labradoodle world.

A Care Family treats the dog as their pet – and it truly is their pet for life – with a few restrictions that I sincerely hope all owners would do.  The dog must be trained, fed a high quality diet, regularly groomed (at home is fine), and loved to bits.  The expenses are aligned such that all pet related expenses belong to the family, all breeding related expenses are paid by Harmony Labradoodles.

Occassionally there is a need for a Foster Family who has the pup for at most a year. This is to allow a young breeding prospect pup to grow to the point where his breeding status is decided.  All expenses are paid by Harmony Labradoodles. There is always a chance that the puppy will be retained by Harmony, in which case, keeping the pup as a Care Family is an option.
