Harmony Labradoodles began with the desire to breed dogs that are ‘just right’.  As a young adult, I owned a Golden Retriever and German Shepherd; and a poodle and poodle mix as a child.  I loved the golden’s temperament and the shepherd’s brains but both shed way too much!  I wanted a cute, smart dog that didn’t shed.  When I discovered the Labradoodle, I knew I was home.  As one of those people who doesn’t make a purchase without doing lots of research and then follows their heart, I found myself ordering a dog from Australia.  A leap of faith that was rewarded many times over!  Harmony Labradoodles endeavors to breed the ultimate companion dog.  Smart and willing, alert yet calm.  The graceful clown, the clever entertainer.  Man has always bred dogs with a specific function in mind: hunting, guarding, herding.  The purpose of this breed is a companion.  To live in your home, to fill your heart and your house with delight, to harmonize with your family.

Why Australian?  There are many breeders of the Australian Labradoodle who have brought the work of Tegan Park and Rutland Manor stateside.  We take the stewardship of this endeavor very seriously as we move towards the goal of AKC breed recognition.  This breed is in the development stages so while there is more predictability in the puppies from these breeders, it is not yet as a stable as a pure breed.  What we have gained from the previous Labradoodle generations is greater predictability in size, coat, temperament, and overall ‘look’.   A true Australian Labradoodle is a blend of 3 - 6 distinct breeds, with different lines having different proportions. The early generation crossbred Labradoodles (known as ‘F1’s and F1B’s) can be wonderful dogs but are less predictable in size, coat, look, and temperament. However, an experienced breeder and a repeat mating, will provide reasonable predictability for subsequent litters. As well, 'multigen' Labradoodles, need only be a cross of two F2s. Should you elect to go with an American crossbred, check that the breeding stock is health tested and they started with quality dogs. As there are many more breeders of the American crossbred, extreme due diligence is required to assure the quality of your dog.  The top two reasons that crossbred Labradoodles are abandoned by their owners are "it got too big" and "it required too much exercise and training".  Knowing what you are getting is a big step towards eliminating that problem.

Size: Harmony Labradoodles breeds primarily what is classified as a ‘medium’ Labradoodle, 17” – 20”, with the occasional pup that is plus or minus an inch, which puts them into the territory of a large miniature and small standard.  The corresponding weights will be between 24 and 42 lbs as we strive for a heavier boned dog than a poodle but not as ponderous as some Labs.  Big dogs are great; they are just not practical for most people.  They eat more, poop more, require more grooming, and take up more space.  Small dogs are super portable but when you have kids, want a good walking companion, or have a tendency to trip over things, well, medium seems ‘just right’.  It goes without saying though, that if you want a dog under 17” or over 20” by all means go with an Australian Labradoodle, and you will find links to breeders of miniatures and standards on the Information page.

Coat:  Fleece, Curly Fleece, Fleecy Wool.
Color:  We started with chocolate and have added caramel red, apricot and golden cream, and a few black.
Temperament:  The Labradoodle temperament is that of an intuitive, 'want to be with you' dog. Non-aggressive, non-protective. Cheerful and willing. Frequently, temperament is confused with ‘activity level’.  Harmony strives for calm temperaments with a moderate activity level. Through the puppy placements, the temperament and activity level are matched with yours so that your doodle matches your lifestyle.  Our goal is happy dog and happy customer!
Health:  All breeding dogs are health tested prior to breeding.  The goal of all reputable Labradoodles breeders is to create dogs of superior health, absent of the genetic diseases so prevalent in so many purebred dogs today.  We do Penn Hip, PRA and CERF clearances on all our dogs, and Harmony Labradoodles offers a 2 year health guarantee against genetic anomalies.
